Hot Hole caves are a unique system formed in a very unique canyon. The cave starts out with a small crawl through a 6' wide fissure. It then opens up into a long, strait hallway. At the end of the hall is a small pit that appears to have been dug by a human (probaly looking for more passage)
Hot Hole 2 is about 100' north of Hot Hole 1. Both caves seem to have been a hot springs artesian well. There is no longer any water flow in these caves, but the warm temperature still remains from the thermal formations around it. Temperature varys from 55 - 69 degrees (checked in 1999).
There is a high possiblity (due to the high karst formations around the caves) that there could be more passages in either cave, but digging would be required.

Hot Hole #2 has to be one of the most disgusting caves I have been inside. The entire cave was covered with cave crickets on the ceiling, And I spotted a pack rat as big as a cat in a nice nest in the main hall.
But, it was an interesting cave for our area, with the different climate, and the extreme cave biota. And, not to mention it is the only cave I have seen in the Phosphoria formation.
I probaly wouldnt make a special trip to this cave, but it is right off of the main highway, so if you are passing through the area it is worth the sidetrack to check it out. Plus there is a few bolted limestone climbs on the east face of the canyon.
